UNSW

The University of New South Wales (UNSW) has been one of Australia’s leading education providers for more than 50 years.

UNSW is one of the leading teaching and research universities in Australia - renowned for the quality of its graduates and its commitment to new and creative approaches to education and research. Its motto - Scientia Manu et Mente ("Knowledge by Hand and Mind") - encapsulates the University's central philosophy of balancing the practical and the scholarly.

UNSW graduates are highly employable and command some of the best starting salaries. As a result, more than half of New South Wales' top HSC students consistently make UNSW their first preference, more than all other universities in the State combined.

The University also enjoys the reputation of Australia's leading international university with the largest on-campus enrolment of international students and over 200 sister university partnerships around the world, amongst many other international activities.

UNSW has over 40,000 students including over 8,800 international students, from over 120 different countries and an additional 1,800 international students in pre-University programs. The University offers over 700 undergraduate and postgraduate programs, and has developed an extensive network of alumni chapters throughout Asia.

UNSW is one of Australia's leading research universities and is home to a number of internationally recognised research developments in the fields of Quantum Computing, Photovoltaics, HIV Aids Research, Interactive Cinema and Polymer Chemistry. UNSW's expertise is regularly sought after by business and government, for the wide range of consultancy and training services offered.

Located in Sydney, the University of New South Wales is situated near the business hub of Australia's largest city, providing easy access to a wide range of academic, cultural and social activities, and less than 5km from some of the most famous beaches in the world. The 38 hectare Kensington site, the main UNSW campus, consists of state-of-the-art faculty and service facilities that combine to provide an ideal educational and communal environment for all students. There is also the College of Fine Arts in nearby Paddington and the University College at the Australian Defence Force Academy in Canberra.

During the 1950s and 60s, UNSW welcomed many outstanding students from Asia under the Colombo Plan – a Federal Government program to provide education scholarships. Since that time enrolments have continued to grow steadily with nearly 25% of our 40,000 students from overseas, with a large proportion from Asia.

UNSW operates three fully staffed offices in Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok, as well as a range of joint research and teaching activities across the region, including a Foundation Studies joint-venture in Jakarta.

As well the University regularly conducts graduation ceremonies in Singapore, Malaysia, China and Hong Kong to allow those students to have their academic achievements recognised in front of family and friends.

NewSouth Global (NSG) is responsible for the management of the off-shore offices and is the international training and consultancy arm of the University. It was established in 1999 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of UNSW. With over 230 full time staff and an annual turnover of $65 million, proceeds from NSG activities are donated to the University in the form of scholarships, matching funds for the UNSW Foundation and NSG fellowships and scholarships.

The company also contributes to the University through the diverse work of the five NSG divisions:
